ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Thursday, people from all across the state came to Albany with two common interests: growing jobs, and hunting quail. Even Governor Brian Kemp was in attendance at the 35th annual Quail Hunt, hosted by the Georgia Chamber at the Thronateeska Heritage Center.

“We’re really here to make friends and build relationships,” said Chris Clark, president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.

Programs like the Georgia Quail Hunt allow prospects and consultants worldwide to do just that.

“That’s what makes companies want to look at Georgia. How do we sell them in the end? We show them hospitality, we show them what makes us unique as Georgians and quail hunting is a great example.” said Pat Wilson, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

Thursday, hunters got a chance to come into the community and learn about the quality of life and investment or project opportunities here.

“We want your people to be happy. It’s about us selling a quality of life that we have in Georgia,” said Governor Kemp.

Since 1994, business participants in the Georgia Quail Hunt have contributed billions of dollars to the state’s economy and generated more than 10,000 jobs.

“It helps the small businesses, it helps your education facilities. The projects we’re talking about here are going to provide generational opportunities,” said Clark.

To keep those opportunities going, Kemp believes support and involvement from people at the local level is vital.

“Just all of the different partners that we work with literally every day on projects. We cannot do it unless the locals support it, and we want a lot of these projects to come from the bottom up,” said Kemp.

“Because there’s no better way to give somebody hope, to give somebody a new lease on life, than to give them an opportunity for a job,” said Wilson.
