A Fayetteville, Georgia, man was arrested in Louisiana on Thursday, after he allegedly killed his wife and burned her body before burying her under yard debris, according to authorities.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said Kenneth Hardin Junior faces homicide-related charges and was being held in St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana, pending extradition.

In a press release, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said that during the early morning hours on Tuesday, a domestic dispute occurred between Hardin and his wife at their residence on Merlin Court in Fayetteville.

The next morning, Hardin allegedly confessed to family members that he killed his wife, burned her body and was leaving town.

Hardin’s father contacted county dispatchers to report the alleged incident later that morning, and when deputies responded to the residence, they discovered evidence that was consistent with what was reported.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives were able to track Hardin’s vehicle to Convington, Louisiana.

They then contacted the Louisiana State Patrol and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office (STPSO) and worked together to locate the vehicle at a nearby motel.

After locating the vehicle, SWAT members apprehended Hardin from inside the motel and then booked him into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Facility as a fugitive pending extradition back to Georgia.

As some investigators pursued Hardin, others continued the investigation at Hardin’s residence, where they located a shallow grave in a wooded area behind the residence.

The sheriff’s office said the burned remains of Hardin’s wife, Carrie Hardin, were located buried under yard debris.

What a way to start the season for Georgia Tech. They got the win over No. 10 Florida State and pulled a big upset. Their offensive line was dominant, the running game was excellent throughout, and the defense showed they should be much better this season.

Georgia Tech proved a lot of people wrong once again today. Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key has had a lot of success against ranked teams as an underdog and continued that today. The Georgia Tech rushing attack looked like it did not miss a beat, the offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage, and the defense looked much improved. Georgia Tech outgained Florida State 336-291 and outrushed Florida State 190-98. That was the difference in the game. Georgia Tech had to beat Florida State on the line of scrimmage and they did just that.

Jamal Haynes rushed for 75 yards on 11 carries, King had 54 on 15 carries, and Chad Alexander had seven carries for 41 yards. Malik Rutherford was the leading receiver for Georgia Tech, catching four passes for 66 yards. Georgia Tech averaged 6.5 yards per play while Florida State averaged 5.0.

The Florida State rushing attack that got a lot of attention coming into this game was held to 3.2 yards per carry.

This is a massive win for the program. Things have been trending up for the Yellow Jackets under Key and while they still have a tough road ahead, this is a great way to start the year. Now, they have to handle the success and attention this game will get and be prepared to face Georgia State next weekend.

A 12-foot-tall statue of John Lewis was unveiled in Georgia on Saturday morning, honoring the legacy of the civil rights leader and congressman who died in 2020.

The statue stands in Decatur Square outside the historic Decatur courthouse in outer Atlanta, in a district Lewis represented in Congress from 1987 to his death. Lewis was 80 when he died due to complications related to pancreatic cancer.

The statue replaces a Confederate obelisk that was originally erected in 1908 and was taken down in June 2020 amid the Black Lives Matter protests that spread across the country after the murder of George Floyd.

“It’s exciting to see it going up and exciting for the city because of what he represents and what it’s replacing,” Basil Watson, the sculptor who made the statue, told the Associated Press.

Lewis was a key figure in the civil rights movement as a leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which led protests across the south. He was one of several protesters who were brutally beaten by police during a peaceful march of 600 people across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, in 1965, a day that was termed “Bloody Sunday” for the police’s violent crackdown against protesters that day.

Lewis was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 by then president Barack Obama for his role in the civil rights movement and as a congressman.

The statue portrays Lewis with his hands over his heart, a gesture Michael Collins, who served as Lewis’s chief of staff for 21 years, said “meant so much to him because he just wanted to thank everybody”.

“That was a way … of showing love to everybody. And so that’s why this is so fitting of a posture for the congressman, to be saying thank you, I love you,” Collins told local newspaper Decaturish in 2022, when the statue was first commissioned.

The former Confederate obelisk was often vandalized by protesters, who long called for its removal. The monument was erected in 1908 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a group that often memorialized leaders of the Ku Klux Klan.

An inscription at the former obelisk, written by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, read: “To the memory of the soldiers and sailors of the Confederacy, of whose virtues in peace and in war are witnesses to the end that justice may be done and that the truth perish not.”

A total of 33 Confederate statues were removed in multiple states in 2021 and 2022, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which advocates for the removal of Confederate monuments and symbols.
