No. 18 Florida State Defeats Clemson To Advance To ACC Quarterfinals

Cary, N.C. – The No. 18 Florida State males’s tennis group (18-7, 8-4) defeated Clemson 4-0 within the second spherical of ACC Championships on Thursday afternoon at Cary Tennis Park. 

“I believed that it was an excellent effort immediately. We bought off to a fast begin on No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, Antoine and Josh bought an early break as did Maks Silagy and Barnaby Smith” head coach Dwayne Hultquist stated. “Smith and Silagy performed wonderful immediately and bought an early 6-1 win, after which Antoine served out to win confidently to get the early lead”. 

Florida State secured a 1-0 lead after successful on courtroom No. 1 and courtroom No. 3.  

Silagy and Smith opened doubles play with a 6-1 win on courtroom No. 3.

Taking part in at No. 1 doubles for the primary time this season, Cornut-Chauvinc and Dous-Karpenschif cruised to a 6-3 win, marking their ninth within the final 10 outings. 

Youcef Rihane opened singles scoring for the Seminoles with a 6-2, 6-0 straight-set-victory on courtroom No. 3.  

Petrovic secured his 13th win of the spring, making it 3-0 after a 6-2, 6-3 win on courtroom No. 5.

The match was clinched by Cornut-Chauvinc on courtroom No. 1 after he defeated No. 93 Ryuhei Azuma 6-4, 6-2. It was his 11th win over a ranked opponent. 

“Clemson was battling and there was one stage the place we have been solely up on two of the six courts, however I believed we actually took management of the match and gained all six first units” Hultquist stated. “I’m actually happy with Rihane immediately, him and Petrovic have been actually fast off, and Antoine performed a very robust second set to win 6-2.”

Florida State will play No. 4 seed North Carolina within the quarterfinals of the ACC Championships on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
