Florida Department of Education investigates who bought “Gender Queer” for Orange County Schools
The Florida Division of Training is investigating who bought the e book Gender Queer: A Memoir for the Orange County Colleges library system, the Orlando Sentinel stories.
In emails obtained by the newspaper in coordination with the Florida Freedom to Learn Venture, DOE worker Ian Dohme wrote to an Orange County faculty administrator saying, “the workplace is attempting to determine who authorised the e book.”
Then in follow-up emails, Dohme was given copies of orders for the e book made by 4 faculties within the district together with not less than one doc that included the title of a librarian who had signed off on the orders.
Dohme works for the division’s Workplace of Skilled Practices, which often investigates “alleged misconduct by educators in Florida.”
The transfer comes simply months after the district pulled the e book from lecture rooms and libraries.
Gender Queer tells the story of a younger nonbinary particular person’s coming of age.
