I-80 lane closures continue another week around Delaware Water Gap

Drivers taking Interstate 80 by the Delaware Water Hole can anticipate one other week of lane closures on the New Jersey aspect.

One eastbound lane will likely be shut down each day from 10 a.m. to three p.m. Monday to Friday this week, the New Jersey Division of Transportation (NJDOT) says. A westbound lane will likely be closed throughout those self same hours on Monday solely.

That may put the freeway down to 1 lane in every path between mile markers 0.8 and 1.4 earlier than the S-curve that winds between Mount Tammany and the Delaware River.

This continues final week’s closures as street crews examine a crumbling retaining wall forward of repairs.

The 70-year-old retaining wall is situated alongside the river between Knowlton and Hardwick townships. The NJDOT beforehand mentioned it has been making emergency repairs on the wall since March 2020, however additional deterioration led to a $56 million emergency restore plan.

This work is separate from a controversial plan for a rockfall mitigation wall alongside a stretch I-80 on the N.J. aspect of the hole.
