Food stamps: August SNAP payments worth up to $1,691 to be sent to Delaware residents tomorrow
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will conclude its August payments for Delaware residents on Wednesday.
Delaware SNAP households receive payments beginning on the second of the month and ending on the 23rd. The First State’s food stamps program issues payments over three-quarters of the month, making it one of the longest-running programs.

Payments are distributed based on the first letter of a recipient’s last name. Approximately 118,800 people (or 12% of Delaware’s population) receive food stamps. The average payment per household member per month is $175.
Single-person households receive $281 as a maximum benefit, while eight-member households can collect up to $1,691. An additional $211 is added for each household member over eight.
To qualify for SNAP, a household’s gross monthly income cannot be more than 200% of the federal poverty level. For example, a single-person household cannot make more than $2,266 monthly, while an eight-person household cannot make more than $7,772 monthly.

SNAP payments are loaded into a Food First card, which is Delaware’s version of an electronic benefits transfer card. It works similarly to a debit or ATM card and can be used for groceries (such as bread, eggs, fruits, and vegetables) and nonalcoholic drinks. Prepared foods, household items, and pet food cannot be purchased with food stamps.
The funds remain on the card without expiring as long as the card remains in regular use. Recipients can check the amount on their EBT cards by checking their last grocery receipt.
