Delaware State rides freshman QB Henry to victory
DOVER, Del. — Freshman backup quarterback C.J. Henry threw three landing passes and Delaware State breezed to a 35-19 victory over Division II-member Virginia Lynchburg on Saturday.
Delaware State (2-1) starter Jared Lewis gave the Hornets a 7-6 lead within the first quarter with a 68-yard scoring strike to Jerrish Halsey. Henry linked with freshman Rahkeem Smith for a 27-yard rating and a 14-9 Hornets’ lead after one quarter.
Henry and Nico Stout teamed up for a 15-yard landing early within the second quarter to push Delaware State’s result in 21-9. Marquis Gillis had a 12-yard scoring run to provide the Hornets a 28-9 lead on the half.
Henry’s third scoring toss was a 25-yarder to Halsey with 6:12 remaining within the sport.
Henry accomplished 9 of 14 passes for 115 yards with one interception. Lewis completed with 95 yards on 4-of-4 passing. Wade Inge rushed for 106 yards on 18 carries. Halsey totaled 134 yards on seven catches.
CJ Brooks threw for 341 yards on 19-of-33 passing with two touchdowns for the Dragons. Donmonic Perks had 4 receptions for 143 yards, together with a 90-yarder. Anthony Duffy and Demarcus Jones had TD catches.
Virginia Lynchburg completed with minus-21 yards speeding on 21 carries.
