Delaware man attempts to carjack an off-duty cop in unmarked vehicle
A Newark, Delaware, man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly attempting to carjack an off-duty police officer in an unmarked police car, in response to police.
The Newark Police Division stated officers responded to East Predominant Avenue at about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, after a report of a carjacking.
The sufferer advised police that whereas he was in his car, a person walked up, opened the automobile door and advised him to get out whereas attempting to bodily take away him from inside.
After a quick scuffle, the sufferer was in a position to take away the suspect and lock the automobile doorways.
Minutes later, police stated, an off-duty Newark police officer who was driving in an unmarked police car was stopped on East Predominant Avenue, when he was approached by a person, later recognized as Mark Tannen, 22, of Newark.
Tannen allegedly opened the police car door and advised the off-duty police officer to get out of the car.
The officer recognized himself to Tannen, who fled on foot.
Police stated the officer chased after Tannen on foot, and with the help of different officers, Tannen was apprehended with out incident.
The sufferer of the primary carjacking try positively recognized Tannen because the suspect, police stated.
Neither sufferer was injured within the incidents, police stated, and a weapon was not used.
Tannen was taken to police headquarters and charged with two counts of second-degree tried theft.
He then appeared earlier than a magistrate on video and ordered to be held on $5,000 bail, earlier than being taken to the Howard R. Younger Correctional Establishment in Wilmington, Delaware.
