What Klay Thompson revealed he has to be better at with Dallas Mavericks
Mavericks guard Klay Thompson is one of the established veterans on the team, and, along with fellow veterans Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, is a surefire future member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Playing his first 11 seasons in the league and winning four championships with the Golden State Warriors, Thompson knows the ins and outs of winning big, and he aims to pass that on to the other members of the Dallas Mavericks.
Recently on the podcast Showtime with Michael Cooper, Thompson discussed his leadership role within the Mavericks organization, explaining that his function within his current team is different from what it was at his previous stop, and that his aim for success is as high as it’s ever been.
“I gotta lead these guys with my voice. I never really did that back in Golden State, so now I have a different calling to use my championship knowledge and show these guys it’s a journey… We just gotta peak at the right time… So, I’m really excited. I’m actually gonna go to the gym now. I haven’t been this motivated in years.”

Thompson, who averaged 14.0 points per game last year and shot 39% from beyond the arc, is one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history, especially of the catch-and-shoot variety, where he is considered by most to be the best of all time. He was an integral part of the Warriors’ four championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022, winning several accolades along the way, including five All-Star appearances and two appearances on the All-NBA list.
Considering the number of players that have won championships on the current roster, which includes Thompson, as well as the aforementioned Davis and Irving, it is possible that these winning ways can be translated through osmosis to the younger members of the team, namely rookie Cooper Flagg and other young players like Max Christie.
Though Thompson’s defense has faltered as bit as he has aged, he will be able to teach players like Flagg about playing on the perimeter on both sides of the ball, providing guidance for a young player with all of the potential in the world. If Flagg can pick up pointers on his shot and his defense from Thompson, it could end up being one of the most impactful signings in Mavericks history.
Thompson is entering his 13th season in the league, posting career averages of 19.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting 41% from three.

Texas shopper fatally shot outside PetSmart after dispute over not saying ‘thank you’: officials
A woman in Texas was shot and killed in a PetSmart parking lot after an argument over not saying “thank you” for opening the door, according to police.
Cecilia Simpson, 41, was shot several times outside a PetSmart in Dallas on Tuesday at around 1 p.m., Dallas police told FOX 4.
A witness told police that Simpson held the door open for Keona Zachyua Hampton, 22, at a Five Below store, an arrest affidavit states.
Simpson allegedly became irritated that Hampton didn’t thank her for holding the door open, triggering an argument. Simpson and her daughter went to their car and drove to PetSmart, which was in the same plaza.
When Simpson and her daughter entered the PetSmart store, she told employees they were being followed by Hampton.
Hampton allegedly walked into the store and began arguing with Simpson’s daughter.
Hampton exited the store, but returned a few minutes later, when she allegedly started another argument with Simpson.
After being asked to leave the store, Hampton allegedly threw a bottle at the vehicle Simpson was driving with her daughter in it.
According to police, a physical fight then ensued when Hampton took out a handgun and allegedly shot Simpson three times.
Hampton was arrested on Tuesday night during a traffic stop and admitted she got into an argument with Simpson, but claimed she only took out the gun when the situation became physical.
Hampton was booked into jail on a murder charge.
Her bail hasn’t been set.
An ER nurse who saw the incident told FOX 4 her perspective on what happened.
“The shooter was saying, ‘Come outside. Let’s handle this outside. Let’s fight outside.’ And the mom and daughter were just telling her to like go away,” she said. “The mother and daughter tried to get in the car to de-escalate the situation but the lady wasn’t having it. They started to fight and that’s when the lady pulled out her gun and shot her.”
The nurse said she performed CPR before paramedics arrived.
“The daughter was next to the mom the whole time. It’s hard, you know, because the screaming of a child for her mother is never easy and it’s never going to leave my head,” she said.
“I’ve been trying not to cry, but just like, you know, being in high school, my mom was such an important person in my life and she’s the reason I became a nurse. My whole family is.”
The Dallas Cowboys are picking up their preparations for a Week 6 showdown with the Carolina Panthers as the NFL regular season rolls on.
During Thursday’s practice session that was open to the media, there was a positive sign regarding star receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb has been recovering from a high-ankle sprain suffered in Week 3, which has kept him from taking the field for the Week 4 tie with the Green Bay Packers and the dominant Week 5 win over the New York Jets.

While he has missed the past two games, Lamb has been seen back on the practice field without a walking boot and has been ramping up his rehab work.
According to Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News, there “was definitely an acceleration in his rehabilitation work” as he continued his work on the resistance chords.
As for when Lamb could return to the field, Hoyt noted, “Feels like next Sunday against Washington is more of a target for Lamb than this Sunday, IMO.”

Before Lamb went down with his injury, he hauled in 16 catches for 222 yards.
Returning against the Commanders in Week 7 would be great news for Dallas, with All-Pro playmaker KaVontae Turpin also targeting a return against the division rival, so let’s hope neither player suffers any setbacks.
