These Dallas restaurants are doing temporary closures during the summer

Some Dallas restaurants are just like the rest of us: They need a summer vacation. We’re talking about the small, family-owned restaurants who want time off and don’t have a big chain-level staff to fill in the blanks.

There are also restaurants taking a break this year for different reasons, which are elaborated below.

For your calendar purposes — for your dining plans — these Dallas restaurants are taking a summer break:

Dairy-Ette
Beloved burger joint with carhops on Ferguson Road in Casa View has been known to have unpredictable hours. But one thing you can count on is that they always take a summer break.

What you can’t count on is predicting exactly when. In prior years, it’s been the first week of August, but in a CultureMap exclusive, we have the summer break date for 2023: June 30 to July 10.

“We were going to do it in August, but we just found out it will be in July,” a manager says.

Goldrush Cafe
East Dallas diner has a tradition of closing during the summer for two weeks. Co-owner George Sanchez recalls that they started closing every summer because most of the family went on vacation together with his dad, the original owner.

While those simultaneous family vacations are mostly a thing of the past, the restaurant has continued the tradition.

This year, it’ll be from August 1 to August 15. “The first two weeks of August are usually pretty slow,” Sanchez says.

Lucia Dallas
Acclaimed Italian restaurant in the Bishop Arts District from husband-and-wife David and Jennifer Uygur, will be closed for a mid-summer break, from July 2-July 17.

This is an annual tradition for the restaurant.

It means they will not only not be open for dine-in service, they will also not be offering their tradition of “Dinners To Go” on June 24 and 25 or July 1 and 2.

The Woolworth
Downtown destination for craft cocktails and chef-inspired plates is closing, an unprecedented act, starting July 1.

“Since its inception in 2013, The Woolworth has transformed into a distinguished downtown destination renowned for its artisanal cocktails and delectable chef-curated bites,” the restaurant says. “Now, the time has come for us to rejuvenate our establishment.”

They’ll be temporarily closed throughout July to revamp their food & beverage offerings.

“We’re escaping the Dallas heat, we’ll be back mid-August,” they say. “Join us in August as we re-introduce ourselves, ready to captivate your senses with a renewed culinary experience.”
