Japanese retailer Daiso has plans for a second Dallas store and it will be the biggest in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

Daiso plans to open an 8,300-square-foot store in the Shops at Park Lane in November, the retailer said. It’s the second new notable lease for The Shops at Park Lane. Last month, American Girl confirmed it’s moving there early next year from Galleria Dallas.

The Shops at Park Lane is anchored by Whole Foods Market, Bloomingdale’s The Outlet, Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off Fifth and has three dozen stores and restaurants. The mixed-use development with apartments and offices, located across from NorthPark Center, is owned and operated by Northwood Retail. A spokeswoman for Northwood said the final lease hasn’t been signed.

While Daiso has been opening stores in suburban D-FW since 2015, the discount chain with a unique collection of Japanese general merchandise, is just now moving into the Dallas city limits.

Last month, the retailer said it plans to open on the northwest corner of Mockingbird and Abrams in East Dallas. That store will open sometime in September in a 5,466-square-foot space in the Tom Thumb-anchored Mockingbird Commons shopping center.

When Park Lane opens Daiso, will have 21 stores in Texas. The retailer is known for its broad selection of unique and affordable products across several categories such as household goods, stationery and beauty.

Daiso is expanding its distribution capacity so that it can open more stores in Texas. It’s in the process of opening its second U.S. distribution center in DeSoto. Daiso is working with logistics network Flexe and transportation and warehousing company JT Logistics in DeSoto.

Lance Twitty, Daiso’s chief merchandising and supply chain officer, said earlier this month that Texas makes sense with its central location. The warehouse operation not only allows it to open more stores in Texas but also to develop its e-commerce business, he said.

Daiso entered the U.S. market in 2005, first along the West Coast.
