How have Dallas-area top 100 recruits performed through Week 5 of the Texas high school football season?

Since the Texas high school football regular season has just about reached its midpoint, it’s time to check in on how some of the Dallas-area’s top 100 recruits in the Class of 2024 have performed through Week 5.

All seven of the quarterbacks on The Dallas Morning News top 100 recruits list rank among the top 20 Dallas-area passers in their respective classifications. Six of the 15 top wide receivers rank in the top 20 in their respective classifications. Two of the seven running backs on the list rank among the top 20 rushers in their respective classifications.

Fourteen teams with a top-recruited defensive player —  including Duncanville, Trophy Club Byron Nelson, Lewisville and DeSoto — rank within the top 20 in the area for overall defense in their respective classifications.

Six teams with a top-recruited offensive line player — including Southlake Carroll, Prosper and Denton Guyer — rank within the top 20 in the area for overall offense in their respective classifications.

South Oak Cliff (3–2)  leads the Dallas area with six top 100 recruits. McKinney (5–0) and Lewisville (3-1) have five each. DeSoto (4–0) Duncanville(5–0), Lancaster(1–4), Southlake Carroll (5–0) and Trophy Club Byron Nelson (5–0) each have four top 100 recruits. All eight teams combine for a 31–7 record through Week 5.

Now, let’s get into how specific players on the top 100 list have performed.

Colin Simmons, DL, Duncanville

Simmons, the No.1-ranked recruit in the Dallas area, leads a Duncancille defense that has allowed opponents an average of 106 yards of offense per game, 62 passing yards per game, 44 rushing yards per game and 3.25 points per game. In Duncanville’s 76-0 win over Mansfield Lake Ridge, the five-star Texas commit made three sacks and two tackles for loss in the first half alone.

Bryant Wesco, WR, Midlothian

Wesco, the No.2-ranked recruit in the Dallas area, has caught 27 passes for 410 yards and 10 touchdowns. The five-star wideout heads to Clemson next fall.

Xavier Filsaime, S, McKinney

Ranked seventh among Dallas-area recruits, Filsaime earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 1 of the Texas high school football season. In McKinney’s season-opening win over Longview, the Florida pledge forced a fumble that McKinney recovered with just over a minute remaining in the game. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety also made six tackles and three pass breakups in the game.

Filsaime helps lead a defense that has allowed opponents 245 yards of offense per game, 131.2 passing yards per game, 113.8 rushing yards per game and 13 points per game.

Mike Hawkins, QB, Frisco Emerson

Hawkins, ranked 16th among Dallas-area recruits and first among area quarterbacks, has passed for 1054 yards and 17 touchdowns with no interceptions. The senior, who transferred from Allen this season, is committed to Oklahoma.

Kewan Lacy, RB, Lancaster

Lacy, the 23rd-ranked Dallas-area recruit, has rushed for 625 yards and seven touchdowns on 82 carries. Lancaster’s leading rusher heads to Nebraska next year.
