Heavy rain overnight Friday dumped more than six inches of rain across Dallas-Fort Worth, according to the National Weather Service, causing slippery roads and some flash flooding.
Dallas Love Field Airport received around 3.18 inches of rain, according to the airport’s rain gauge. The heaviest amounts fell on the southeast side of downtown Dallas, with rainfall closer to six inches, said Daniel Huckaby, meteorologist with the NWS.
More heavy rain is expected to fall across Dallas Saturday morning, with some regions under a flash flood warning until noon. Motorists are advised to drive carefully on the roads and turn around if they encounter any flooded areas.
“Even if the road looks safe to cross, turn around, don’t drown,” Huckaby said.
Drizzle is likely to continue throughout Saturday afternoon, which could keep roads wet and slippery. Another round of significant rainfall is expected to arrive in Dallas Saturday night, mostly after 10 p.m., Huckaby said.
The weather service also extended its flood watch for the North Texas area until Sunday morning, warning of the potential for more heavy rainfall and some torrential downpours “off and on” throughout the weekend. Two to five inches of rain is expected, and some areas could to receive more than six inches.
NWS continues to advise people to stay weather alert, especially for any flood warnings.
