Facing a two-goal deficit against Lexington SC, Dallas Trinity FC didn’t let its guard down as the final minutes ticked away in its latest USL Super League matchup.
Trinity needed just 10 minutes to complete a furious rally, stealing a 3-2 win from Lexington on Saturday night. Cyera Hintzen, Jenny-Julia Danielsson and Gracie Brian found the back of the net late in a match where Trinity held an advantage in most attacking categories.
Lexington got ahead early when a Madison Parsons header found the bottom right corner of Trinity’s goal. The 14th-minute goal gave Lexington a strong base to build from, even as Trinity began to create dangerous looks against goalkeeper Sarah Cox.
Shortly after the halftime break, Lexington extended its advantage when Shea Moyer converted a penalty kick. Lexington got the opportunity to score when Parsons was fouled on a slide tackle attempt from Hannah Davison in the 18-yard box.
That was the last time Lexington found a clear shot on goal, watching momentum swing in Trinity’s favor in the match’s final 10 minutes. Hintzen got Trinity on the board first when she pushed a loose ball past Cox after the keeper made a save at a difficult angle.
About seven minutes later, Danielsson tied things up with a quick shot off an assist from Sealey Strawn. The comeback was complete in the 89th minute when Brian made the most of a low-placed cross from Hintzen.
Here’s a look at the goals scored in Trinity’s meeting with Lexington:
Trinity closed out the USL Super League match with 55% possession, outshooting Lexington 18-8 with 11 shots on target. The victory puts Trinity at third in the Super League standings with 16 points, just behind Carolina Ascent FC (21 points) and Brooklyn FC (20 points).
