The Minnesota Wild host the Dallas Stars on Sunday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Minnesota is 5-7-2 this season and sits sixth in the Central Division. Dallas still remains at the top of the Central Division with a record of 9-3-1. Last season these two teams split their four games with each getting two wins. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EST.
Dallas’ Road Victories
Dallas is going to Minnesota after a matinee win against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday with a final score of 3-2. This would be the second win for the Stars on their three-game road trip. There is a reason why Dallas is number one in the Central Division and that is they have outstanding defense and goaltending. The Dallas Stars are ranked fifth in the NHL in goals against per game at 2.46. Dallas also still holds the title of top penalty kill in the league at 93.2%.
We got to see Scott Wedgewood Saturday against the Jets and he performed very well only allowing two goals on 33 shots. Since Wedgewood got the start on Saturday we should see Jake Oettinger in net for the Dallas Stars on Sunday. Oettinger this season is posting a record of 6-2-1 with a goals against average of 2.10 and save percentage of .933.

Wild Desperate for Defense
Minnesota returns home after a three-game road trip that finished in Buffalo with a final score of 2-3. The Minnesota Wild are 2-6 on the road after their loss to the Sabres on Friday. The Defense has a lot to do with their problems so far this year. The Wild rank 30th in the league in goals against per game at 3.93. This is a stark contrast to last season as Minnesota had one of the best defenses ranking sixth in goals against per game. The penalty kill is probably the worst part of this team ranking dead last in the NHL at 68.2%.
The goaltending for Minnesota has been a problem as well this season as both goalies have not been contributing much. Filip Gustavsson is 2-4-1 this season with a horrendous goals against average of 4.64 and a save percentage of .872. While Marc-Andre Fleury is playing better in net than Gustavsson, he is still not going to be able to carry this team to a victory alone. Fleury is 3-3-1 with a goals against average of 2.75 and save percentage of .898.

Rating:
Despite Dallas playing a back to back game on Sunday, I am still going to side with them to win this game. Jake Oettinger in his career against the Minnesota Wild is 4-0-1 with a save percentage of 2.40. If we look at how he does in Minnesota, his record turns to 2-0-1 and Oettinger’s goals against average decreases to 1.57. I am going to say Dallas has the motivation to sweep their three-game road trip and come home with six points.
Take the Dallas Stars on the moneyline.
Prediction: Dallas Stars ML ( -110 )

Rating:
Dallas is playing a back to back game which normally means the defense is going to be tired. This could be a moment for the Wild to get a couple goals at home against Dallas. Out of the six games played at home for the Wild, five of their games have gone over 5.5. Minnesota should get at least two to three goals which leaves the Stars to take advantage of one of the worst defenses in the NHL. This should be a high scoring game even with Jake Oettinger in net for Dallas.
I am going with the over at 5.5.
Prediction: Over 5.5 ( -134)
