Dak Prescott's bold claim: Michael Gallup's resurgence will shock the NFL
The Dallas Cowboys were busy last offseason, making some significant moves on offense. They traded veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns and re-signed wide receiver Michael Gallup despite his torn ACL near the end of the 2021 NFL season. Gallup’s recovery caused him to miss the first three games of the 2022 season, and he struggled to find his rhythm thereafter. However, it seems like he might be turning a corner now.
In an interview with ESPN, Gallup expressed his optimism, saying he feels “springy again.” Quarterback Dak Prescott also spoke highly of Gallup, noting that he’s starting to return to his pre-injury form. “Just for him to get into this offseason, get his body right, and now just starting to come back into who Michael Gallup is and feel himself, I think what you just saw is a couple of plays right there of doing that consecutively,” Prescott said.
“But that’s a guy that I’ve got a lot of trust in. I know who he is, and more importantly, how he works and comes to work each and every day to get better. He’s getting his feet under him, and he’s going to be better.”
Gallup had career lows in 2022
Last season, Gallup appeared in 14 games but only managed 39 receptions for 424 yards and four touchdowns, which were career lows. His most productive season came in 2019 when he recorded 1,107 receiving yards on 16.8 yards per reception.
Since the departure of Cooper, CeeDee Lamb has emerged as the Cowboys’ top receiver and has made consecutive Pro Bowl appearances. While the team lost tight end Dalton Schultz and wide receiver Noah Brown in the offseason, they acquired veteran receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans.
Gallup sees himself reclaiming a pivotal role in the Cowboys’ passing attack once he has a healthy offseason under his belt. He aims to become an essential component of the team’s offensive strategy once again.
“I’m very confident I’ll be that guy, for sure,” Gallup said. “Very confident. It just feels different. It’s kind of like in the air. I ain’t going to lie to you. I’m smiling every time I walk in that facility.”
