A man who complained to police that his neighbors were “often playing loud music and interfering with his life” is facing a murder charge after a fist fight turned deadly early Sunday, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

According to an arrest-warrant affidavit, a “large family party” was taking place in the 900 block of Hoke Smith Drive while the suspect, 54-year-old Lonnie Holcombe and his son were sitting on their front porch next door.

A pickup truck with victim Carlos Gonzalez, 49, and his son pulled up to the party playing loud music, the affidavit states. Holcombe allegedly fired multiple shots at the truck with a BB gun, causing damage and striking Gonzalez, who was in the bed of the truck.

When Gonzalez and other people from the party walked over to confront Holcombe, Holcombe struck one of them and then multiple people “assaulted” the suspect, police wrote in the affidavit.

Eventually, Holcombe ended up on the ground with Gonzalez on top of him. Holcombe then reached into his pocket, pulled out a .9mm handgun and shot Gonzalez in the chest, according to the warrant.

The fight ended and everyone walked back to their respective properties as Gonzalez’s family called 911. First responders arrived about 1:20 a.m. and took Gonzalez to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The two guns Holcombe used during the incident were taken by police and during an interview Holcombe told them, according to the affidavit, that he’d had an ongoing issue with Gonzalez for about a year and said the family played loud music that would interfere with his life.

Holcombe was arrested early Sunday and booked into the Dallas County Jail. He remained in custody as of Monday morning on a $250,000 bond, records show. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
