On Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 Maisie Peters’ The Good Witch tour rolled through Austin, TX at Emo’s. The Good Witch, her newest album and namesake of the tour, dropped earlier this year and has top hits already like “Lost the Breakup” and “Body Better”, with over 25 million streams combined on Spotify. “There it Goes”, with the line “I’m doing better, I made it to September, I can finally breathe” became a trending TikTok sound for the month, boosting her popularity even more. So much so, the Austin stop on the tour was sold out. Fans of Gracie Abrams, Nina Nesbitt, or Lizzie McAlpine will also love Maisie Peters.
The TikTok age has popularized the trend of romanticizing your life, and “The Good Witch” provides just the right soundtrack to do so. AP News is calling these soundtracks the “summer of girlhood”, celebrating nostalgia and being emotional, and taking influences from Barbie and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Peters told AP News, “It’s the classic teenage girl in their 20s, fun. And I’m such a teenage girl in my 20s.”
She brought elements of the Eras Tour on stage with her, having a mic stand riddled with handmade bracelets with words on them exchanged between her and fans, just as attendees of the Eras Tour were trading bracelets with each other at Taylor Swift shows. It’s about connection and common interest, celebrating being a fun girl.
The vibey and dance filled energy of Maisie Peters filled Emo’s to the brim. She danced around the stage, engaging with the crowd. As most musicians in Austin also do, she borrowed a cowboy hat from an audience member to perform in. The Good Witch tour continues stateside and abroad through November 3rd, and then picks back up in February. If you missed her opening for Ed Sheeran, make sure you catch her on one of her solo stops. For more information about the tour, visit Maisie Peters’ website.
