The 2024 SEC football schedule reveal took place on Wednesday night. Texas now knows who they will be facing and where for their first season in the conference.
The dates and TV Networks will be released at a later time. However, which opponents Texas would face for their first year in the SEC was the talk of the offseason.
On the plus side, Texas will finally get to play Texas A&M while also keeping their neutral location for the Red River Rivalry intact. On the down side, the Longhorns have a couple tough draws on the road.
Here’s a look at Texas’ 2024 SEC opponents and the location of each matchup.
Oklahoma
Location: Neutral site (Dallas, TX)
This should be no surprise. When Texas joined the SEC, it was expected for the Red River Rivalry to stay intact and played at the same neutral location.
Texas A&M
Location: at Texas A&M
Texas A&M fought tooth and nail to get the first meeting between the two in-state programs to be in College Station. It appears they got their wish. Texas will want nothing more than to beat the Aggies at Kyle Field.
Mississippi State
Location: Home (Austin, TX)
Mississippi State will likely be in somewhat of a rebuild the next couple of seasons after the tragic passing of legendary head coach Mike Leach.
Kentucky
Location: Home (Austin, TX)
Considering Texas could have faced LSU or Tennessee in this slot, hosting Kentucky is considered a win for the Longhorns.
Vanderbilt
Location: at Vanderbilt
In terms of a balanced schedule in mind, Texas draws Vanderbilt. They’ve been a below average football program to date and don’t instill much fear into Texas fans.
Georgia
Location: Home (Austin, TX)
This is easily Texas’ top home game of the 2024 season. If Georgia continues the dynasty path that they’re on, this matchup could break the attendance record in Austin.
Florida
Location: Home (Austin, TX)
It appears this home matchup on the schedule came down to Auburn or Florida. Texas and Florida have only played each other three times in history. Texas fans will likely be elated to attend this game.
Arkansas
Location: at Arkansas
It’s a tough draw for Texas to have to play both Texas A&M and Arkansas on the road in rowdy environments for their first season in the SEC. On the bright side, Texas’ 2025 schedule should look a bit better.
