AUSTIN, Texas — A food blogger has used her social media influence to bring some restaurants in Austin together in support of Maui on Aug. 19.

Amanda Wong, who runs the Austin Food Adventures account on Instagram, shared that a group of businesses agreed to donate a percentage of their Saturday sales to Maui Food Bank. Some will contribute 10% of their profit, and others will give at least 5%.

Austinites are implored to visit participating eateries for the charitable event, “Dine with Maui.” Eating out this weekend at any of the restaurants associated with the event would be of great service to Maui families.

The wildfire is the deadliest in the U.S. in over a century. More than 100 lives were lost, and structures damaged exceeded 2,000. Many people are now without homes.

FEMA and additional relief agencies have stepped up to help in any way they can with temporary shelter and other urgent services.

Wong, in the past, raised $50,000 for Ukraine as refugees sought sanctuary in Texas from the endless battle with the Russians. So, her humanitarian efforts are not lost on the community.
