“It would be like what we think of today as Billy Graham, that kind of level,” Erick Montgomery, Executive Director of Historic Augusta says. “TABERNACLE BAPTIST CHURCH IS SO IMPORTANT IT WAS HIS CHURCH…THERE’S A SCHOOL, C.T. WALKER MAGNET SCHOOL NEARBY. SO, THAT’S HOW IMPORTANT HE WAS AND THAT’S WHY IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR US AS A HISTORIC PRESERVATION ORGANIZATION TO TRY AND SAVE THE BUILDING.”
