Separate crashes claim 2 lives in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Two people have died just miles apart from each other in separate crashes in Augusta on Thursday night.
Both crashes come after a 58-year-old man died nearly two weeks after his car slammed into a home on Meadowbrook Drive and two people were killed in a wreck Thursday involving an Aiken County school bus.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the intersection of Gordon Highway and Jimmie Dyess Parkway at 8:22 p.m. in reference to a bicyclist struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, the bicyclist was found deceased, according to officials.
According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, the victim was pronounced dead on scene at 9:40 p.m.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, all lanes will be blocked until 11:15 p.m.
Meanwhile, deputies are reporting another death in a crash on I-520 Westbound at Wheeler Road at 9:04 p.m.
Once on scene, deputies located a single car accident where the vehicle drove off the roadway and struck a pole.
The driver of the vehicle was found deceased, according to officials.
According to the coroner’s office, the victim was pronounced dead on scene at 10:20 p.m.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, all lanes will be blocked until 11:45 p.m.
Both crashes are under investigation.
