Retired man explores city of Augusta in a unique way
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – After you retire, what do you like to do in your free time?
We caught up with one man who has a unique way of keeping busy.
Dennis Bradish spends a lot of time with Ruth.
“People love her. I mean, who wouldn’t? Just look at the curves on her,” he said. “What a beautiful little cycle she is.”
Ruth is Hebrew for “friend.” Bradish says it’s a fitting name for his Honda Metropolitan.
Using his Metropolitan, he explores the Augusta Metropolitan Area.
“What I’ll do is just go and explore and see whatever catches our attention. The whole goal is to capture Augusta,” he said.
Bradish rides with Ruth through neighborhoods all over. If something catches his eye, he stops to take a look.
“You’ve got pockets of history throughout the area,” he said.
He’s seen that firsthand over the last two years. Bradish says it all started in the Harrisburg neighborhood.
“I wanted to know what this blank area over here is,” Bradish said, pointing to the former Rollersville Cemetery. “That used to be a cemetery, but there’s no headstones in it.”
When he finds places like this, he’s driven to learn more and share what he sees.
Ruth is one camera-friendly scooter.
Bradish takes pictures everywhere they go and puts them in a Facebook group he created called Dennis’ Metropolitan.
He says it’s all about spreading positivity.
“Every community may have its problems, but let’s focus on something different,” he said. “Let’s focus on the good in Augusta, let’s focus on what you can find and learn and see and touch.”
