SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – As we get closer and closer to the start of Vice President Kamala Harris’s rally Thursday afternoon, WTOC is hearing from local republicans.

Our teams caught up with Representative Buddy Carter Wednesday and broke down what he had to say.

First, Representative Carter says he’s happy the VP is making a trip to the Coastal Empire, saying he hopes she enjoys her visit and gets a taste of what Savannah has to offer.

He also says this is a great time for voters to get a better idea of what she stands for.

During her speech this afternoon, he’s asking Georgia voters to really listen in on her message.

He wants you to pay attention to the policies she brings up, as that’s what he says will have the biggest impact on America’s future.

Aside from listening to campaign messaging, Carter says he disagrees with the Vice President’s record while in office.

“She cannot, as hard as she tries, wipe her fingerprints away from the policies of the Biden-Harris administration. She has been there, they are her policies as well. Resulting in higher inflation, resulting in a border that is in crisis right now, resulting in America being weak on the world stage, resulting in crime in our cities. All of those things have her fingerprints all over them,” said Representative Buddy Carter.

As this election season continues, Representative Carter hopes former president Donald Trump and his running mate J. D. Vance will also make their way to the Coastal Empire, especially as Georgia plays a critical role in the upcoming presidential election.

As we get closer and closer to the vice president taking the stage at Enmarket Arena, we want to hear from local republicans.

It’s no secret that Georgia is a battleground state in this election, a big reason why both vice president Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump have made stops in Atlanta now the VP making a stop in the Coastal Empire.

But, local republicans say they’re not impressed by her performance during her term in the Biden-Harris administration.

Representative Jesse Petrea called Harris out for her role in many issues he says the US is currently facing.

His biggest issues – inflation and border control.

Now, he’s asking Georgia voters to really think about who they choose on their ballot in a few months making sure to reflect on Harris’s role as a leader the past few years compared to Trump’s time in the oval office.

“It doesn’t matter whether I like someone or not, or whether I like Kamala or I like Donald Trump. You’re voting for the person that will protect this country and protect your family and allow you to thrive, and you’re not going to get that with Kamala. We see what we get with Kamala. We get the same thing we’ve gotten with Biden. Weak border, weak on crime, weak on the world stage,” said Representative Jesse Petrea. “We already know what we get with Donald Trump. We’ve been there, it isn’t like it’s new. We had a strong presence on the world stage and we had a thriving economy. We had low taxes, and we had low inflation, and we had the most secure border in American history, bar none.”

With Harris making the visit to Savannah, we asked Petrea if he’s expected Trump to follow suit.

While he says he would welcome a visit from the former president and his running mate J D Vance, he wants them to be smart in their campaigning, even if that means missing out on the Coastal Empire.
