Leidos and AUSA to donate $4,000 to support youth STEM and manufacturing camp at Augusta Technical College
AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Leidos, a Fortune 500 science and technology leader partnered with AUSA Greater Augusta- Fort Gordon Chapter to present a check to Augusta Technical College on Wednesday.
Augusta Tech received a 4-thousand-dollar grant to support their youth STEM and Manufacturing Camp.
Leidos and AUSA’s donation will support the expansion of the camp to provide more hands-on learning for STEM and manufacturing concepts.
Augusta Tech Officials say that they want to promote STEM and Manufacturing careers because of the shortage of youth pursuing education n those career fields.
This camp aims to inspire kids to consider education and a career in these fields through interactive lessons.
This camp is open to 12- to 14-year-olds. There are still spots available, the next session will be held on July 18th – 20th.

An active shooter situation at Army base Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday led to the killing of one person, officials said.
The base went into lockdown shortly before 9 a.m. local time Saturday, making the announcement via social media to the over 110,000 people living on base.
“IF YOU ARE IN DANGER TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION!” the message read on Facebook.
In a statement, the Army base said that the victim was shot in on-post housing and later died.

The base, formerly known as Fort Gordon, said that information about the person who was shot would be released following next-of-kin notification.

“Our focus at this time is providing support to the victim’s family and assistance to anyone impacted by this tragedy,” the base said following the lockdown notification. “The safety and well-being of our residents – our Soldiers and Families – remains a top priority.”

The suspect was placed in custody and local and state law enforcement are investigating the incident.
AUGUSTA, GA — One person was fatally shot at a U.S. Army base in Georgia on Saturday.
The shooting took place at housing at Fort Eisenhower, which is just outside Augusta.
The Army base went into lockdown Saturday morning when an active shooter was reported just before 9 a.m., officials wrote in a Facebook post. The base was closed for about two hours.

The suspect is in custody and there’s no threat to the community, officials said. The shooting was an “isolated” incident.
The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, which is leading the investigation, won’t release information about the victim until their family has been notified.

The department is working with state and federal partners during the investigation.
“Fort Eisenhower is actively supporting the victim’s family and assistance will be available to anyone impacted by this tragedy. The safety of our residents and personnel remains our primary concern,” according to officials at the base

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a false report of shots fired at the Augusta Mall on Saturday.
The sheriff’s office says deputies responded to 3350 Wrightsboro Road in reference to an active shooter.
Deputies say upon arrival, they searched the mall and concluded that a shooting never happened and was a false alarm.
This follows a deadly shooting in post housing at Fort Eisenhower on Saturday morning.
The shooting placed Fort Eisenhower on lockdown for nearly two hours.
If it had been a shooting, it wouldn’t be the first — or even the second — at the mall.
In July, one person was injured in a shooting in the Snipes store. Officials call it a “targeted incident”. In April, one person was injured in a shooting in Dillard’s at the mall.
In June 2022, a gun was brandished during a verbal dispute in the food court, and in 2020, a shooting killed one person at the mall.
All of this is part of a two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 180 lives across the CSRA.
Cities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River, but as the largest city in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.
Authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs.
