Filming begins at a historical church in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Filming began Saturday for a TV series, and episode one is being filmed right here in Augusta.
Asherah: a Love Odyssey is a modern retelling of mythology meant for today’s audience.
Episode one is being filmed at Sacred Heart Cultural Center.
The filmmaker says he looked at almost every church in Georgia before choosing Sacred Heart.
“That’s something wonderful that’s going to happen,” Gary Mazeffa, one of the filmmakers, says. “Will be here at Sacred Heart Cathedral and we can’t say what, but there will be a significant event that will take place take place within this Cathedral. Of things that were once lost that will now be presented back to humanity.”
Sacred Heart stopped being a place of worship back in 1971 and has become a cultural nonprofit.
The non-profit says it’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a project like this.
“We work very hard to preserve the integrity of this building,” Millie Huff, the executive director of Sacred Heart, says. “And it has been a labor of love for 38 years now to maintain the historic presence of this architecture and so this is really a unique opportunity to showcase this in a national forum.”
The filmmakers say they hope the show gets picked up so all 6 episodes can be made.
great hall tours at Sacred Heart will be discontinued until Wednesday, March 12, while filming continues.
