Eastbound traffic to shift onto new I-20 bridges at state line

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Georgia Division of Transportation plans a serious Interstate 20 eastbound visitors shift onto the brand new Savannah River and Augusta Canal bridges.

Contractors will work Saturday evening to Sunday morning to finalize the shift starting close to Exit 200, Riverwatch Parkway.

Drivers are transferring to the within lanes or the center part. The ultimate shift must be in place by 9 a.m. Sunday.

“A couple of month in the past, we shifted visitors onto the westbound bridge and are excited that eastbound is following intently behind it,” Undertaking Supervisor Albert Welch mentioned.

Work will proceed in coming months as the previous buildings are demolished and reconstructed.

Climate allowing, the I-20 eastbound visitors shift shall be carried out over the weekend with remaining preparations together with striping and barrier wall relocations requiring single-lane closures Thursday by means of Saturday nights.

The schedule:

  • 9 p.m. April 20 to six a.m. April 21: One westbound left lane closed
  • 10 p.m. April 21 to eight a.m. April 22: One westbound left lane closed
  • 10 p.m. April 22 to 9 a.m. April 23: One eastbound left lane closed
