Driver arrested in death of passenger in Gordon Highway crash

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A Thomson driver has been arrested over the loss of life of her passenger in a single-vehicle crash in February.

Based on the Richmond County Sheriff’s Workplace, Sylvia Burnett, 63, was arrested Wednesday.

The crash occurred round 7:50 p.m. Feb. 17 close to mile marker 2.5 on Gordon Freeway.

Based on Richmond County Coroner’s Workplace, passenger Charlie Brown, 58, of Thomson, was taken to a close-by hospital and handed away the following morning round 5:30 a.m.

Burnett was making an attempt to vary from the proper to the left lane on Gordon Freeway heading east when she realized she was about to strike a automobile that was behind her within the left lane, in accordance with an accident report from deputies.

As she tried to get out of the way in which, her automobile hit the median and rolled over, in accordance with deputies. Burnett was discovered at fault for an improper lane change, in accordance with authorities.

Burnett has been charged with murder by automobile, a misdemeanor, and turning actions, in accordance with authorities.
