Closure time has arrived for the Rue 21 store at Augusta Mall

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Closure day has come for the Rue 21 store at the Augusta Mall.

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the teen clothing retailer is shutting down all 541 of its stores, including the one at the mall on the lower level near Dillard’s.

The Augusta store is closing Wednesday.

The company is $200 million in debt and could not rebound from the pandemic and changes in market trends.

At its peak, the chain had more than 1,000 stores across the nation,
