Christ Community Health Services getting $600K in federal money

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Christ Community Health Services in Augusta is getting $600,000 in federal funding announced Thursday by U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff.

It’s part of $7.2 million in federal resources coming to community health centers across Georgia through the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The money will be used to establish and expand local programs that help individuals struggling with their mental health or substance use.

“I hear consistently from local leaders, health leaders, and faith leaders across the state about the need for a stronger safety net for mental health as well as investment in substance abuse prevention and treatment,” said Ossoff, D-Ga. “I’m pleased to announce that with bipartisan support from Republicans and Democrats, I’ve helped secure supplemental investments coming to Georgia to support mental health and substance abuse treatment.”

Mental Health America’s The State of Mental Health in America 2024 report found most people with a substance use disorder in the U.S. are not receiving treatment, and that over half of youth surveyed who experienced mental health struggles did not receive treatment.
