Memorial Service for Richard Barry Culp, age 92, who passed peacefully on September 22,2024 will be held in the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church of Augusta, GA on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11 o’clock. Dr. Ken Word officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Barry was born to Harry and Mamie Suit Culp on Sept. 12, 1932. He spent his youth in Miami, Florida. Barry, his father, and brother had a love of building and flying model airplanes in competition. This love of airplanes led Barry to earn a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Florida. He spent many years working for Lockheed and Boeing. He later earned an MBA from Georgia State University and began a second career as a General Contractor, specializing in custom homes and small commercial buildings.

Barry met the love of his life, Carolyn, at Sandy Springs Christian Church where they were married. They moved with their children to Toccoa, Ga, and Lake Hartwell. He was an active member of Rotary Club and was elected to the City Commission. Barry and Carolyn enjoyed traveling abroad but their favorite was going to Mexico and the NC Mountains with their dear friends. Barry enjoyed tennis, water skiing, snow skiing, and family vacations at the beach. He was proud of the medals he earned at the North Carolina State Senior Olympics. Barry and Carolyn relocated to Augusta, GA in 2003, where he continued his career as a General Contractor. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Augusta and the Caring Co-Ed Class.

In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his brother Raymond, his daughter Kas Campbell, his grandson Nic Lanken and his grandson Kevin Driggers.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn and his children Catherine Zych, Carolyn Spurlock (Craig), Jimmy Culp (Enke), Cheryl Culp, Sharon Driggers (Jim), Patti Chandler (Stephen) and Bill Jones (LaDawn). His grandchildren Kate Lanken, Kelsey Spurlock, Caitlin Hulver (Richard), Austin Oslock (Wende), Barry Gibson, Adam Driggers (Britteny), Stephen Driggers (Brooke), Max Chandler (Michele), Caroline Chandler, Andrew Campbell (Maura), Peyton Jones and Greyson Jones. Also surviving are niece Lisa Reynolds, nephew Lyman Reynolds, Jr., son-in-law Chris Campbell, granddaughter-in-law Brandy Driggers, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Caring Co-Ed Class of First Baptist Church Augusta.
