Augusta Wins Fifth Consecutive PBC Men’s Cross Country Title
OAKWOOD, GA — Augusta University took the top three spots and six of the top 10 as they won the Peach Belt Conference men’s cross country championship on Saturday at the University of North Georgia Cross Country Course. The Jaguars win their fifth straight conference title with 22 points, edging out a competitive Flagler team who was second with 34.
Augusta’s Brandon Martin won the individual title with a time of 24:37.5 over the 8k course. Martin led at each of the five splits, finishing 26 seconds ahead of teammate Avery Jaynes in second place. His time was tied for the 12th-fastest 8k run in PBC championship history and his 26-second margin the eight-largest
Daniel Laird of Georgia College & State University was named the Freshman of the Year with a time of 27:00.7. He was the top-finishing freshman who was also among his teams’ top seven runners. Augusta’s Jacob Bergamy was named the Coach of the Year.
The top 15 finishers were named to the All-Conference team. Most PBC teams will be back in action on the same course in two weeks for the NCAA Southeast Regional.
