Augusta baseball set for home opener in newly renovated stadium
AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF)- The Augusta baseball program kicked off their season in Florida last weekend. Now, they’re back gearing up for their first home game against Erskine College.
The Jaguars went 1-3 at Saint Leo University in Florida, dropping a pair of close losses, an 8-7 defeat, and a 5-4 loss. But it’s back to fundamentals they go in preparing for their next game.
The players and coaching staff are back with a different look and feel this season. Their new and improved baseball renovations include the dugout, the press box, seating behind home plate, the scoreboard, and more.
The additional upgrades add new excitement to the two-week homestand.
“It really just shows the coaching staff and the university trusts in us, believes in us, and they’re pouring all of this money into us. It helps and motivates us to get better results as a team and play better,” said first and third baseman Parker Ingram.
“The scoreboard being lit up today kind of brings everything full circle. The guys are ready to be at home, they’ve been here for eight months This is where we unpack our bags so we’re excited to turn these guys loose and go compete,” said head coach Chris Howell.
First pitch is set for Tuesday, 3 p.m.
