4th annual tomato sandwich competition held by Augusta Locally Grown
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The fourth annual tomato sandwich competition was held on Thursday as judges gathered to judge tomato sandwiches.
It was hosted at the HUB for Community Innovation, backed by nonprofit Augusta Locally Grown.
Judges scored the sandwiches in three areas: presentation, taste and creativity.
“It’s important to keep quality products on your diet because it keeps you healthy. You could go out and eat something that was not good for you, necessarily, like a lot of sugar, and then you’re going to have higher doctor bills and all that. But, if you eat quality food that keeps your body healthy, then you’re going to save on money from going to the doctor. Just to feel better about yourself and to feel better about your day,” said Gina Dixon, judge.
The event helps promote eating healthier and more organic foods.
The winner received tokens to spend at the Farmer’s Market.
Augusta Locally Grown hosts community events every Tuesday that help teach people how to prepare healthier meals.
