3 CSRA residents indicted on federal firearm charges
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Three CSRA residents’ firearms cases are among those prosecuted in federal court.
The cases are prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods in collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Those indicted during the February term of the U.S. District Court Grand Jury include Grovetown resident Deveon Daniels, 25, who was charged with illegal possession of a machinegun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Daniels was also charged with murder after his 4-year-old daughter shot herself with his gun in May. Police said the gun had been converted to fully automatic, and the father had placed it on the floor near his daughter at their apartment on Sterlington Drive.
Meanwhile, Justin Anthony Brown, 32, of Augusta, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Christopher David Baskett, 46, of Augusta, awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In 2020, Richmond County deputies located a pistol in Baskett’s vehicle while investigating reports of gunfire in downtown Augusta.
“With our law enforcement partners, we continue the work of removing firearms from the hands of those who can’t legally possess them – especially those convicted of prior felonies,” said Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.
