2 dead, 1 hospitalized after shooting at Augusta Best Buy
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has provided an account of the shooting at the Best Buy that killed two people and hospitalized another.
Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received a call about shots fired at Best Buy on Walton Way Extension on Sunday at 6:12 p.m. and were on the scene within minutes, officials say.
Deputies located two adults who had sustained deadly gunshot wounds.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced them dead.
A third adult was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
A young child was present but was not injured. Augusta Fire Department firefighters and deputies remained with the child until DFACS personnel arrived to ensure his care and safety, officials say.
“Based on witness statements and camera evidence, investigators have determined this was a domestic-related incident. Currently, there is no known threat to the public,” said Lewis Blanchard, a chief at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses say the shooting occurred near the back of the parking lot.
According to Coroner Mark Bowen, both victims suffered at least one gunshot wound.
Multiple police and unmarked cars responded to the scene, along with EMS agencies.
Sheriff Eugene Brantley provided a statement.
“Our hearts go out to the child who was present during this senseless tragedy. No child should ever have to experience such trauma. As a community, we must come together to support him and others who are affected. Violence is never the answer to our problems—it only leaves behind grief, pain, and broken families. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working with our community to prevent violence and ensure safety for every resident.”
