16 apartment units burned in fire on Stevens Creek Road

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Crews battled a fire at an apartment complex on Stevens Creek Road early Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Authorities say at 10:55 p.m. crews responded to the 900 block of Stevens Creek Road at the 3300 building of the Nine Two Six West apartment complex.

A caller reported hearing fireworks for over two hours before noticing a fire in the apartment building, authorities say.

The caller immediately began knocking on doors, informing residents of the fire and urging them to evacuate, according to authorities.

On arrival, firefighters notified dispatch that the incident required a full response. The fire was brought under control and quickly extinguished, officials say.

According to authorities, a total of 16 units burned. One minor injury was reported by a young lady who escaped from her balcony.

Residents were put in contact with the Red Cross, officials say.

Crews cleared the scene around 4 a.m.

We were on the scene at 10 a.m., where you could still hear the fire alarms going off inside some of the units.

Water was still draining from the units as well at the time.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.
