ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – There are women who hold us up, who encourage us, and who teach us what we’re capable of.

Those women play a role in who we become as adults.

“My mother, she taught me how to play sports and taught me a woman could be whatever she wants to be,” said Ali Cobb, senior vice president of development and communications for the Atlanta Women’s Foundation. “My friends have taught me vulnerability in the face of challenges, and to believe in myself.”

The Atlanta Women’s Foundation believes in empowering women all over the community, so they can empower others.

“We are a funder, an educator and also a connector,” said Cobb.

It’s an organization that thrives through making community partnerships. They partner with organizations that support their mission, to make sure women and girls thrive.

“There are people who care, who know you are working so hard and just need that hand up, that help, to get where you want to go, to accomplish your goals,” Cobb said. “Our ultimate goal is that all women and girls in Atlanta live safe, healthy, and economically self-sufficient – most importantly, vibrant – lives.”

The Atlanta Women’s Foundation has been around for 25 years. They work to financially support oftentimes underfunded organizations, removing barriers caused by poverty for women and girls. They are working with organizations like the Agape Youth & Family Center for their All Girls Forward: Girls Empowerment project.

“Many of our girls are afraid to dream or afraid to think about their future, because they are accustomed to those traditional gender roles. I also think there is a lack of professional role models for the girls, so it is very challenging for the girls to see themselves beyond their current environment,” said Nell Benn, a licensed clinical social worker with the Agape Youth & Family Center.

“There is still work to be done and I want to be a part of making a difference,” said Cobb.

The Three Degree Guarantee helps raise money for nonprofit organizations serving the metro Atlanta community, including the Atlanta Women’s Foundation. The amount of money donated depends on our weather team’s accuracy. So far, Atlanta News First has donated over $100,000 to local charities with Coolray Heating and Air Conditioning matching each month’s donation.
