MARTA Airport Station back open after weeks of renovations
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The MARTA Airport Station at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is back open after weeks of renovations.
It’s the first major renovation at MARTA’s Airport Station. Atlanta News First got an exclusive look at the progress last week as crews put the finishing touches on the project ahead of Monday’s opening.
Upgrades include everything from new paint, new floors, and new railing to changes to the tactile strips, which help passengers watch their step as they get on and off the train.
Since April 8, a shuttle service has connected travelers from College Park Station to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as crews worked on the renovations.
MARTA says the six-week closure of the Airport Station saved 17 months of construction time.
“It would’ve been a much longer process where we would only do a small portion of work every night and then shore up that work every night to then be open back up in the morning so that 17 months was saved by doing just six weeks of work,” said MARTA Senior Project Manager Jermaine White.
MARTA’s Airport Station reopened early Monday morning. Airport officials say there is another phase of renovations underway, and work will continue.

Annual Toys for Tots campaign underway in Atlanta
How to donate to Toys for Tots this holiday season
Buck Lanford spreads some joy this holiday season from the Toys for Tots drive in Atlanta area Publix grocery stores and visits with Santa to promote the annual toy drive. The pair share easy ways to donate at your local Publix and make a difference this Christmas.
ATLANTA – The U.S. Marine Corps’ annual Toys for Tots campaign is underway across metro Atlanta, with collection boxes set up at every Publix location now through Dec. 14.
What we know:
Organizers say the drive encourages shoppers to pick up an extra toy while doing their regular grocery run, making donating simple even for those who forget to bring one from home.
FOX 5’s Buck Lanford visited the Publix at Moore’s Mill Center on Monday, where early donations included footballs, dolls, Hot Wheels and craft kits. Volunteers—along with Santa, who demonstrated “Lego curls”—reminded shoppers that the program is a partnership between the Marines, United Way, Publix, Pepsi-Cola and FOX 5.
What they’re saying:
Marines on-site said the effort allows them to give back to the community and bring joy to families facing difficult times. Those unable to donate at a store can also participate in the “Great Toy Drop” this Saturday at the Publix on Sandy Plains Road in Marietta, where Santa and Marine volunteers will be collecting toys from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
