GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA (August 21, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer concerned capturing in Atlanta, Georgia.  The Atlanta Police Division (APD) requested the GBI to conduct an impartial investigation on August 20, 2022.  One man was injured and brought to an area hospital.  No officers had been injured.   

Preliminary data signifies round 6:40 p.m., officers with the Atlanta Police Division had been close to 294 Northside Drive once they noticed two males have interaction in doable felony exercise on the Texaco fuel station. When the lads left the placement, officers tried to make contact, however each ran. 

Officers positioned the lads, and when getting out of their patrol automotive, seen that one man, recognized as Keyuntae Whitaker, age 18, of Jonesboro, had a gun in his hand.  Each males ran by way of the Village at Castleberry Hills condo advanced and officers continued to run after them.  Officers repeatedly gave instructions to “drop the gun.”  Whitaker tried to leap over a fence with the gun in hand, persevering with to disregard the officers’ instructions.  The officer fired his weapon and hit Whitaker.  Whitaker was taken to an area hospital for therapy.

The GBI will conduct an impartial investigation. As soon as full, the case file shall be given to the Fulton County District Lawyer’s Workplace for assessment.
