Former Atlanta officer indicted in 2019 shooting death of suspect during raid

ATLANTA – A former Atlanta police officer who shot a person to dying whereas working with a federal job power in January 2019 has been indicted for involuntary manslaughter.
Sung Kim, a 26-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Division, shot and killed 21-year-old Jimmy Atchison throughout a federal raid of a northwest Atlanta house advanced, the indictment states.
Kim, who retired from APD in October 2019, was indicted Friday of involuntary manslaughter and violation of oath by public officer.
The household claims Atchison was unarmed and surrendering when he was shot as the duty served a theft warrant.
Atchison’s dying triggered the Atlanta Police Division to re-evaluate its position on federal job forces because the federal coverage clashes with the division’s coverage on body-worn cameras. All APD officers are required to put on physique cameras whereas on obligation.
