Braves News: Austin Riley’s 2024 over, pivotal win over Mets, and more

Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley is done for the season, regardless if the club makes a postseason run. Riley went on the injured list in mid-August with a fractured right hand, and his recent CT scan revealed his hand was not healed enough to eliminate the cast.

Riley suited up for the Braves 110 times this season and manufactured a .256 average while logging 960.1 innings at third base.
Tuesday’s news didn’t come as a huge surprise, but it is unfortunate, as the Braves continue to fight for a spot in the playoffs.

The Cincinnati Reds reinstated right-hander Ian Gibaut from the 60-day injured list. The club also placed RHP Julian Aguiar on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.

Public meeting scheduled for proposed LGBTQ+ center in Atlanta

ATLANTA – Plans to establish a new LGBTQ+ community center in Atlanta are moving forward, with organizers now seeking in-person feedback from residents interested in helping shape the facility’s future.

What we know:
The Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority, which is overseeing the project, has launched a year-long feasibility study to determine the center’s purpose and design. So far, hundreds of people have participated by completing an online survey offering their input.
The proposed center would serve as a dedicated space for supporting and uplifting members of the LGBTQ+ community in the Atlanta area.
What’s next:
As part of the next phase, a public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Truth Midtown. Attendees must RSVP in advance to participate in the session.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A kidnapping that began in South Carolina ended in Rockdale County Saturday, according to Covington police.

Kidnapping suspect from South Carolina arrested in Rockdale County, Covington police say
Police said a woman approached a stranger at a rest stop in Morgan County Saturday, said she had been kidnapped and asked the person to call 911. The person called 911 and gave police a description of the vehicle.
Covington police later saw the car traveling on I-20 and attempted a traffic stop. The car drove away with the victim inside. It was stopped after a PIT maneuver in Rockdale County.

A former Cobb County high school teacher and his wife are in custody, accused of abusing their own kids.
One of the children said he was forced to live in a basement without heat or air conditioning.

28-year-old man shot in head in southwest Atlanta

ATLANTA – A 28-year-old man was hospitalized on Monday night after being shot in the head at a residence in southwest Atlanta, police said.
What we know:
Officers responded to the 3200 block of Cushman Circle SW around 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, they found the victim alert, conscious, and breathing despite suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
What we don’t know:
His condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Investigators with the Atlanta Police Department’s Aggravated Assault Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities said the investigation remains active.
Police noted that the information released is preliminary and may change as the investigation develops.
