Braves News: Atlanta Signs Whit Merrifield, Michael Harris II Injury Update, More
I think it is fair to suggest Monday was better than Sunday.
But it still was not too good of a day.
The Braves offense went back into hibernation as Reynaldo Lopez had one of his worst starts of the season in a 4-1 loss to the Reds. Atlanta has now lost three straight games as they are struggling out of the game in the second half of the season.
Of course, the biggest news of the day happened this morning when it was announced that Atlanta signed veteran utility man Whit Merrifield to a major league contract. The goal for Merrifield will be to serve as a versatile bench piece for the Braves. He will likely be the back up option to Nacho Alvarez Jr., who made his MLB debut on Monday. Unfortunately, Merrifield had a bit of a scare after injuring his finger before the game on Monday. He should be good to go showed no fracture.

Michael Harris II is remaining active working his way back from his hamstring injury. However, at this time, there is still no timetable for his return:

He told me the left hamstring feels good and he’s just trusting the process and team’s timing to ramp back up. Obviously, wants to avoid any and all potential setbacks.

In a bit more positive news, Austin Riley left the game on Monday due to his wife going into labor. Nothing but the best to the Rileys and the new arrival.
As mentioned over the past 24 hours and now more than official, to make room for Alvarez and Merrifield, the Braves optioned Eli White to AAA, placed Albies on the 10-day injured list, and designated Forrest Wall for assignment.
