What the Cincinnati Reds are getting in Arkansas baseball second baseman Peyton Stovall

Arkansas baseball second baseman Peyton Stovall was selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the 117th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2024 MLB Draft Monday.

Stovall was the second Razorback to hear his name called, with left-handed pitcher Hagen Smith going to the Chicago White Sox in the first round.

Stovall slashed .340/.409/.535 with nine home runs and 38 RBIs during the 2024 season. He missed the first 12 games of the season with a broken foot.

The Louisiana native led Arkansas in base hits (68), doubles (12), batting average (.340), slugging percentage (.535) and on-base plus slugging (.944). He recorded a team-leading 19 multi-hit games and committed just two errors in 160 total chances.

Stovall became the 34th All-American in program history after earning third-team recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings.

MLB Pipeline ranked Stovall as the 77th-best prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft. He was a potential first-round pick coming out of high school in 2021, but he turned down any potential professional suitors with a strong commitment to Arkansas.

The second baseman burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2022 and made 51 starts, with 48 coming at first base. He hit .295 with six home runs, and his sophomore campaign was cut short due to a season-ending shoulder injury after 38 games.
