This weekend the Arkansas Cinema Society is hosting its Arkansas Showcase, a special event featuring a selection of short films and a feature made by Arkansas filmmakers. There will be two blocks of short films Friday at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts.

There are several standout films playing Friday, including “American Heterosexual Story,” directed by Victor Keas, a film that channels an abundance of weirdness and shocking violence and can be interpreted as an homage to the late great David Lynch; “Doom & Despair,” a documentary about one of the most physically demanding bike trails in Arkansas; and Marc Crandall’s award-winning drama about Alzheimer’s, “Banana Triangle Six.”

Saturday morning the event will continue with the feature film “All Happy Families” written by award-winning playwright and North Little Rock native Coburn Goss.
