Bauxite’s Wimberly earns offer after Arkansas camp
Bauxite’s Marcus Wimberly showed out at Arkansas’ one-day camp on Saturday and is leaving Fayetteville with an offer from the Razorbacks.
Wimberly 6-1, 183 pounds, had offers from Memphis, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Sam Houston State and Tennessee-Martin coming into the camp. He is the sixth in-state prospect in the 2025 class to receive an offer from Arkansas.
He was able to do a tour of Arkansas’ facilities and met with Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman in his office afterward.
“Pittman goes like, ‘Well, do you love the Hogs?’ And I said, ‘Yes sir, it’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid,’” Wimberly said. “He goes, ‘Well, when I was growing up, I loved the Hogs, too, and it was my dream school and wanted to play for the Hogs, but I wasn’t quite good enough. But I think you are, so you have a full-ride scholarship to play for me at the University of Arkansas.’”
Wimberly was stunned and somewhat speechless after learning he had an offer.
“I was getting a little emotional, trying to hold it back,” Wimberly said. “My dad started getting a little emotional, so it got a little harder. I really didn’t know what to do with myself, and we got out to the car and I hugged my dad and I lost it with tears of joy, because God has blessed me and my family with the position we’re in.”
The class of 2025 prospect ran 4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash, jumped 38-inches in the vertical and measured 10-2 in the broad jump in testing. He then shined during 1-on-1s as a safety.
The thought of committing entered his mind.
“It’s definitely a thought for sure, because it’s my home state and it’s been my dream school since I was a little kid,” Wimberly said. “It’s definitely a very strong thought, but I’m going to talk with my family and we may wait just a minute and see where the Lord is going to lead me, because after all, everything that’s happening now is great, but in the end nothing matters unless I’m keeping the Lord’s plan for my life in the forefront.”
As a sophomore, Wimberly had 1,500 yards of total offense while playing receiver and quarterback. On defense, he had three interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns.
One of the interception returns was 95 yards.
He has a 305-pound bench press, 415-pound squat and 260-pound power clean. He ran 4.37 seconds in the 40-yard dash at his school while also having a 10-4 broad jump and 3.97-second mark in the pro-agility shuttle.
