Freezing temperatures are expected across much of Alabama over the next few nights.

The National Weather Service is expecting temperatures to dip into the 20s to low 30s across north and north-central Alabama tonight and Tuesday night. South Alabama will get into the 30s too.

The weather service is forecasting the coldest night to be Tuesday for most of the state. Lows from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning are expected to fall into the low to mid-20s in north Alabama, the mid-20s to around 30 in central Alabama and the low 30s in south Alabama.

Temperatures will begin to moderate on Thursday and into the weekend, but rain chances will also increase.

The weather service expects rain to arrive on Thursday night and could last off and on through the weekend.

The good news, though, is any rain could help keep Alabama’s ongoing drought from worsening, and there is no severe weather expected, either.
