The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed former Alabama All-American Cam Robinson on injured reserve and filled his spot on the active roster with former Alabama high school standout Chandler Brewer.

In his seventh season as Jacksonville’s left offensive tackle, Robinson sustained a knee injury on the Jaguars’ second possession of Sunday’s 24-21 victory over the Houston Texans.

After a more detailed examination of the injury on Monday, Jacksonville announced Robinson had been placed on injured reserve.

NFL Network reported Robinson’s injury was not considered to be season-ending, but NFL rules require Robinson to miss at least the next four games once he went on IR. The Jaguars have six games remaining on their regular-season schedule and hold a two-game lead at the top of the AFC South standings in their bid to make the playoffs.

After Robinson left the game on Sunday, left guard Walker Little moved to left tackle, and Ezra Cleveland came in at guard. Cleveland had been a starter for the Minnesota Vikings when Jacksonville obtained him at the trade deadline last month.

Brewer joins the Jaguars’ 53-player active roster from the team’s practice squad. He joined Jacksonville on April 7 as a free-agent signing. Brewer has spent this season on the Jaguars’ practice squad without appearing in a game.

Brewer has been in the NFL since 2019, when he caught on with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted rookie. He played in seven games in 2019 and six games, with four starts, in 2022.

Brewer opted out of the 2020 season under the NFL’s plan to play during the coronavirus pandemic. He was on the Rams’ practice squad during the 2021 season, which ended when Los Angeles defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.

At Florence High School, Brewer was an All-State second-team selection as a senior for the Falcons’ 6A Region 8 championship team, which reached the AHSAA semifinals before falling to eventual state champion Clay-Chalkville in 2014.

At Middle Tennessee, Brewer was a four-year starter. He earned All-Conference USA recognition as the Blue Raiders’ right guard in 2018 even though he underwent radiation treatments for six weeks during the season after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Robinson won the Outland Trophy as college football’s best interior lineman in 2016 at Alabama. He joined the Jaguars as the second pick in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Robinson already has missed a block of four games this season while serving an NFL-imposed suspension to open the campaign. On June 29, the NFL announced Robinson would have to sit out four games for violating the league’s Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances.

Jacksonville went 2-2 with Robinson out of the lineup. Now 8-3 for the season, the Jaguars play the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the next four weeks.
