DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – After a below average yield in 2023, peanut farmers across Alabama are hoping for a more productive 2024.
Dry weather made for a challenging crop but so far this year, Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture Rick Pate said things are on pace for at least an average year.
“Last year was kind of a struggle for a lot of our farmers, especially in the west side of the state. We had a drought that lasted so long so production was way down,” said Commissioner Pate. “We are hoping to get just an average yield this year and so far, so good.”
Even with a proclaimed below average year, the state of Alabama still produced 480 million pounds of peanuts with Houston, Geneva and Henry County being among the top four producers for the state.

New videos of former Alabama QB Jalen Milroe might concern NFL scouts.
The dual-threat QB declared for the NFL Draft Thursday, and many Alabama fans weren’t sad to see him go.

For a guy with very solid stats and physical tools, it’s kind of fascinating to watch Alabama fans seemingly pop bottles of champagne to celebrate his exit.
Troubling videos of Jalen Milroe’s footwork go viral.
Well, Milroe might now have a serious problem on his hands after Joe Gaither dug up videos of the QB’s pre-snap footwork.
The former Alabama star had his feet offset prior to passing plays, side-by-side on running plays and appeared to telegraph what was coming nearly every play in the bowl game against Michigan this year.
Does that sound impossible to believe? Check out the videos, decide for yourself and then let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
Yikes! Those videos are a very tough look for Milroe, and are a huge red flag for NFL scouts. How can a guy be an elite QB if he telegraphs every play with his feet prior to the snap?

How did none of the coaches at Alabama realize his error and fix it? This is the same thing as a major tell in a poker game.
All the defense has to do is look at Milroe’s feet in order to get an idea whether they need to drop into coverage or crash down to stop the run.
It’s a major disadvantage for Alabama, and it will be used as another piece of evidence for Crimson Tide fans not sad to see Milroe leave.

You can expect Milroe to get hammered on this development in his pre-draft interviews, and for good reason. This kind of sloppy footwork won’t be tolerated in the NFL. Let me know what you think at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Quarterback Jalen Milroe has declared for the NFL draft after two seasons as Alabama’s starter.
Milroe, a redshirt junior, announced the news via an Instagram post Thursday. He thanked Nick Saban, Kalen DeBoer and his teammates, among others.
“To the entire Alabama family, thank you for embracing a kid from Texas and allowing me the honor of wearing the script ‘A.’ Representing this university has been one of the greatest honors of my life ” Milroe wrote.
Milroe finished sixth in Heisman Trophy balloting a year ago and played an integral role in Alabama winning the SEC championship and getting to the College Football Playoff.
But he had an up-and-down 2024 season, passing for 2,844 yards and 16 touchdowns but also throwing 11 interceptions. A dynamic running threat, Milroe led Alabama with 726 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns, ranking second nationally among quarterbacks. His 33 career rushing touchdowns is tied for eighth in Alabama history.
Off the field this season, Milroe was the recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy, commonly known as the academic Heisman.
Milroe is ranked as the No. 3 quarterback prospect for the 2025 NFL draft by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.
