Thomas, 73, has been on the Supreme Courtroom since 1991 after being nominated by former President George H.W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall, the nation’s first Black justice. 

Thomas has been sick with an an infection and was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Friday night after experiencing flu-like signs. Thomas didn’t take part in a 3rd straight day of oral arguments within the courtroom Wednesday.
